It wasn't hard to tell a guardian egg apart - they were, just and simply, the biggest ones. And this one? This one would soon begin to pose a real problem.

"Look," he continued, trying to sound as reasonable as possible while actually being quite annoyed with her, "I know people who would buy it. For a good price, too. You are in no position to turn down money like that."

He figured she'd be immune to that reasoning, especially since he wouldn't even be able to deny the potential buyers... beyond disgusting treatment of dragons. But hey, he had to --

It had only seemed natural to attempt hatching the egg once it was in her possession, after all that is what you did with fertilized eggs, wasn't it?

Charity still wasn't entirely sure why Clyde seemed so upset with her, and it was actually getting rather annoying.

"Oh, yes!"

Another baby dragon to love and protect!

"Yes? Have you lost your bloody mind?!"

... This was when it clicked. She didn't know what kind of egg it was. To her, there might as well a spiral on the way, not a fucking guardian.

Somehow, he convinced himself that this kind of utter cluelessness was what kept him here.

"The thing hatching there is a GUARDIAN."

Charity's eyes went wide as she watched a crack form in the eggshell.

A guardian?

"Oh, no!"

She may have been clueless, but she did know a problem when she saw one, and this was without doubt going to be a big one.

"If I go now, I could still sell it before it becomes too much of a bother."

And they would really, really need the money.

[dragonshelter]

"To who? One of your contacts? This is a legal establishment, Clyde, and I intend to keep it that way."

Though however she was going to manage that with a bloody guardian was sort of... up in the air at the moment.

[dragondealer]

"They will legally shut you down soon, and a guardian will not help."

Of course, selling one, even at this stage, was difficult. They grew fast, were a little clumsy at first, not exactly quiet, and they ate a lot. The less transport and time involved, the better, but that was easier said than done.
